no because there are only trace amounts of lysergic acid in each one. you'd probably have to ingest several pounds to gain any effect.

They need lots of water and room to grow, they are a pretty wild plant once established in the garden, they will spread like mint, so be carful where you put them but they may not have enough room in the pots.

and YES, they are like LSD, the first time i took them i dont remember how many seeds i had, but it was a lot.. and i got sick so some seeds came right back up but it was intense and insane. i remember 2 hours after i ate them, i smoked a joint and thats when it kicked in. i tried yesterday with 400 seeds over the course of 2 hours, chewed them up good, when i smoked the joint, i was only high, my pupils were normal so it didn't work. i tried AGAIN today, this time with 450, and still no effect! i grinded them up to a powder and drank them with pepsi, but i didn't smoke any pot. what am i doing wrong?!

BUT, when you pull it, you better make sure you get all of the rootbase you can. It might not be deeply rooted, but it does WONDERS with the shallow roots it has!!!

I planted them and left for labor day weekend longer than I expected. I watered them for the first time after about 3 days (i soaked the seeds for a day before planting), but some of the leaves are brown, and a few leaves are green. Do the brown ones have a fighting chance? they're not completely dry, just withered and brown.

Morning glory seeds need to be started indoors first. They don't like the cold. Wait to put outside until the weather is warm to stay.
Start over with new seeds and soak in warm water till you can see they are going to open. (about a day and a half). Plant them in the cardboard like egg cartons using your potting soil. A couple of seeds per egg station. When ready to plant, cut or tear the egg carton apart and plant this with the seedlings still in it. They don't transplant well so this is why we do it this way. Or you can use a peat-pot. This works well for us. Make sure not to let them dry out. Luck this time.

I hate to tell you this but Scarlett OHara is virtually useless if you're planning to ingest them. Only Heavenly Blues, Pearly Gates, and a few other varieties contain LSA.

"To discourage use today, commercial seed producers treat the seeds with a poisonous coating which cannot be removed by washing. The effects from this coating cause nausea, comiting and severe abdominal pain. Extremely high doses cause psychotic reactions, heart failure and shock."
The seeds can be treated with anything from methyl mercury to thiram. Aside from causing nausea, vomitting and diarrheoa if you eat them, Thiram cannot be mixed with alcohol. It will induce an Antabuse type of reaction (vomitting, rashes etc.).
If it is not mentioned anywhere on the pack if they are treated, then they are not treated. If they are treated, then by law, it has to be stated on the pack. It will also state what the seeds are treated with (eg. Captan, Thiram, Methyl Mercury etc).
But if you are planning to eat these seeds for their psychedelic effect, then it doesn't matter if they are treated or not, you will NOT get any effect from Scarlet O'Hara.
Perhaps you could list out all the symptoms you are feeling and we can analyze whether your symptoms are from the chemicals or from a random cold or virus. And as far as nausea goes, regardless of whether or not they are treated, the seeds will cause nausea ingested. This is due in part to 2 other toxic chemicals present in the seed, one in the husk and one in the pulp. The one in the pulp is pretty mild and can be used to make soap. But the one in the husk can cause a 'strychnine' like effect. Usually, the seeds are pulverized and soaked in petroleum ether to remove this toxic chemical. But if you just ate the seeds raw, this strychnine-like effect (headache, blurred and 'fish-eye' vision) will be more pronounced, as will nausea.

I'm currently in a position where i am searching for legal means of euphoria or at least a mind altered state. Salvia was my first choice, but as of this year salvia is illegal. If there is another substance you think i should try I'm open to it also, but i would still like to know if the seeds are legal. No Rx or derivatives of illegal or prescription substances.

If they get very much nitrogen from lawn fertilizers, you can expect them to grow strongly, but at the expense of flowers.Morning glories also bloom best in late summer and fall. So, I wouldn't follow the advice of the previous answerer who suggested you apply MORE synthetic frertilizer to your plants!

Can Morning Glory Seeds get you high ?
In sufficient quantities, raw common morning glory (ipomaea purpurea) seeds produce a psychedelic - hallucinogenic effect, much like LSD (or so I'm told). In order to obtain this effect, you will need to consume around 150-200 seeds at one sitting. Like LSD, however, morning glory seeds sometimes give you visions you weren't looking for, and the trip can be an unpleasant one. Also, while there is no record that I am aware of any fatalities, numerous hospital visits are made each year by persons who eat the treated seeds - the kind you buy in packets to plant in baskets - since they're coated with an insecticide toxic to humans. If you cannot guarantee your seeds are untreated, or if you cannot pick 200 of them yourself, it's recommended to not ingest them.

Is morning glory bad for iguanas?
i was wondering if it is toxic to them because i work at a pet store and someone that has a couple igs(i think some young ones)said that theirs absoutely love it but then i read online that they are toxic so i dont know what to believe so if you could tell me so i dont feed my iggy that i have at home it and it end up dying.

But check up and read several items and talk to your Vet for the best meals.

I harvest the seeds through the fall, and keep them in a plastic container in the refrigerator over the winter. Then in the spring when it's time to plant, I soak them overnight, then just plant them. I just pick 'em right out of the water they'd been soaking in and put 'em in the ground. Works fine. Next spring will be the 6th generation - I haven't bought new seeds in that time, and just use the ones from last year's plants. The crop gets bigger every year - right now I have FAR more seeds than I could use myself, and they grow, blossom and seed like crazy.
When you harvest the seeds, are you keeping just the seeds, or the entire bulb that they grow in? I just keep the seeds - that's what I soak. Let those bulbs dry on the plant before you pick them, so the seeds just fall out when you crush the bulbs in your fingers.

yes to both questions. Scarify (scratch) the seed with a sharp knife and soak overnight in water. Then plant in soil. Will sprout pretty quickly.
To grow in a container, you'll need a trellis of some sort. Some neat ones can be made with willow branches and leather shoe laces. Put the willow in the large container and pull the tops together and tie with lacing.......The taller the willow, the taller your vines. Morning glories are also neat growing up sunflowers in containers on decks.

I only have a heated mat in there now which keeps temp just about ten degrees warmer than outside

I got like 60-75 seeds, whats it like, and whats the best method? And once again, I dont want any mind controled government freaks who are being controlled to think that expanding your mind is bad.

It's kind of a rough nauseous experience but somewhat psychedelic. You've got to pulverize them really good in a coffee or spice grinder and good luck getting them down. Bitter and NASTY. They do work, and you won't die as the first poster suggested, but IMO the experience is not really worth it. The alkaloids will turn your guts inside out, at least it feels that way.
Important... most packaged seeds are treated with an antifungal which is poisonous, so you have to have untreated seeds or ones you've harvested from plants. Be careful.

Morning glory seed high?
It's kind of a rough nauseous experience but somewhat psychedelic. You've got to pulverize them really good in a coffee or spice grinder and good luck getting them down. Bitter and NASTY. They do work, and you won't die as the first poster suggested, but IMO the experience is not really worth it. The alkaloids will turn your guts inside out, at least it feels that way.
Important... most packaged seeds are treated with an antifungal which is poisonous, so you have to have untreated seeds or ones you've harvested from plants. Be careful.

My place we don't have to plant it, but it grows everywhere, eazy, any home fence, no seeding needed at all.

Morning glories are one of the plants that want world domination and are not afraid to go for it. They seed themselves almost into the pest catagory, coming up everywhere . I pull them out by the fistfuls and still have plenty each year.

I didn't say I didn't love them--I do. There is no plant more beautiful than a heavenly blue morning glory. That is why I don't pull them ALL out.
Reply:I agree, they are lovely. If they grow where you don't want them just rip them out. I love to see them pop up here and there, perhaps growing up a sunflower stalk or around the branches of a rose.
You just have to watch out for the weed "bindweed' which does look like a morning glory but can choke plants.

I've been collecting seeds this year - I probably have 1 1/2 cups of seeds - mostly purple, some white and blue. I think some may come back every year but mostly they just produce a lot of seeds. The trick is to cut them down before they go to seed - if you want to get rid of them, hopefully in a year or two you won't have any more coming up,

Some call it pesky and dont like it cause it can take over,but proper pruning will keep in under control. They are awesome over a trellis or fence. My mother in law had some beautiful white ones and I cant wait until spring so I can plant some seeds. They like alot of sunlight. They are so pretty in the morning when there is a slight dew on the grass and the birds are chirping and the hummingbirds are flying around. Thats my favorite thing to do in the mornings.Sit on my porch and look at the flowers and birds.

I planted morning glories about 6 years ago and even though they always come back, they have not moved. They are still on the same fence I planted them next to. Anyhow, I would love it if they would just take over all my fences.

But you do have to work at it a bit more than haphazardly endangering your life for a buzz.

Morning glory has huge leaves but no flowers, why? Planted in May in sunny area. live in michigan?
I also live in Michigan (U.P.) and have always found that my morning glories never bloom until mid or late August. Maybe just another week or so of patience............

How many morning glory seeds do I have to eat to trip?
there physcadellic... one time i dont know how much i ate, but it worked and it was intense.. it was awsome. i tried a couple other times , i eat about 300- 400 seeds with no effect. how many seeds do i need, and how should i eat them? thanks... anything else is good. and no.. im not a drug addict i only use natural drugs.

They can, if you don't use them properly.
I took them once, about a month ago. It was an amazing experience.
First off, find seeds from a company by the name of Plantation Products - their seeds are commonly found in any store with a gardening section; Wal-Mart, Meijers, etc.
They don't treat their seeds with chemicals, so you won't be poisoned or anything.
Now, when consuming them, the best route to go is grinding them up with an herb or salt grinder, and eating them. I put mine on a pizza. If you mix them with something that has flavor, you hardly notice them. They don't have a distinct taste. Just an extra crunch.
If you have experience with psychedelics, you might want to try around 400 seeds. If not, try starting out with 200. You'll still get a pretty good trip. I myself ate 500 seeds, and found this to be about the equivalent of 2 strong hits of LSD. It was very unexpected and made for quite the experience.
To prevent nausea, which is a common side-effect of eating the seeds, smoke a bowl of cannabis. Following the oral consumption of the seeds, I felt a little nauseous myself. Then I smoked a bowl of cannabis and felt fine.
However; after several hours of strong hallucinations and other trippy side-effects, I did run into some problems. I got extremely hot and sweaty and experienced shortness of breath. I had to run outside to level myself out a bit. Felt fine after getting 5 minutes of fresh air. But... an hour or so later, I felt very sick. Looking at myself in the mirror was a bit scary - bloodshot eyes, VERY dilated pupils, pale face. I looked sick. And then I felt sick. I couldn't stand up or do anything really. However, I was in a very bad setting at this time. I suggest you be in a place where you can lay down and trip. If I hadn't been inside a run-down inner city store with my mother, I would probably have been fine. Anyway, this lasted about an hour. Once we left the store, I felt perfectly fine.

Will my morning glory seeds still germinate?
I let them sit in a bowl of water overnight, but i forgot to take them out for a few days. Will they still grow, or should i give up on them?

Reply:I think they should be ok. Maybe let them sit on a paper towel near a warm spot like a sunny window or something so they can kind of dry up a little. Morning sun would be best because it'll be a little warm but not HOT. You don't want your seeds to rot if they haven't already. I would plant them in egg cartons and keep them in the house for right now and wait and see which ones germiniate then transplant those that sprout.
I just planted mine a couple weeks ago and they're doing well. Hope yours will too! Good luck

Here in zone five they are considered an anual. But Beware! They have a habbit of comming back each year. Every year the flower leaves get bigger, and the flowers also get bigger as well. I had a moon flower (cousin to the morning glorie)

I got a request from some one for a vine, so I made every attempt to pull it it. It was so huge that we had to trim the top off to fit it in the trunk of the car. The roots were much like short but fat white carrots. But it had taken over my flower bed so it had to go. Morning glories open in morning where moonflower opens later in the afternoon. Moonflower has a nice glow from the moonlight at night.

Reply:I'm actually both. I love the night and rarely go to bed before 2:00 am. I also like getting up early especially in the spring and summer. Rarely do I sleep past 8:00am. I'm not now nor have I ever been a big sleeper.

Morning glory (cloud in australia) and the northern lights?
who's seen either of these in real life and what do you think!
I really wanna go travelling and i want to see them what wud be the best time to go!
Morning glory (cloud in australia) and the northern lights?
When I was drilling in Big Bell in Western Aust, just out of Cue I saw the Southern Aurora one night when I was on night-shift and it lasted at least 6 hours..
Here is a site with some pics taken in Tassie, this looks almost identical as to what we saw in WA back in '82...

Reply:Never heard of morning glory but the northern lights can be seen from Alaska. they are beautiful and they are spectrums from the way the sun hits our atmosphere. Have some fun
