How close to the fence should I plant Morning Glory plants so that they actually find and climb the fence?

Should it be right under the fence like 1cm away? or is a few inches ok? How close?

Either way is fine, and then just keep putting them on there when they get going. Another thing, do not fertilize, you will get a beautiful vine with lots of leaves and no flowers, I found that out the hard way.
Reply:believe me...no matter how far away...they will find and take over the fence. They will go crazy!
Reply:Check with local county agent or nurseries. In some States

MG are an invasive species
Reply:Morning Glory, like all plants will reach high for the sunlight..

If you want it all over the fence, plant it a few inches from the fence, but not too far.. Within 3-6 inches is good..

But to make sure they climb the fence properly, wait until they are about 5-10 inches high. Then you cling them to the fence..

You don't have to tie them, just strap them around the fence and they will climb by themselves..

Good luck..
Reply:Plant them within an inch of the fence.
Reply:I plant my morning glory plants as close to the fence as I can get them. I also GENTLY weave the plant %26amp; its tendrils into the wire so they know where to start to climb. They do the rest!
Reply:Inches is good. I had morning glories on my fence, but I had to string up some fish line as they needed that to cling too because the fence pickets were too wide for them to grip.

You might need to put a chicken wire fence around them to keep the rabbits from eating them as they are a rabbit delicacy.
Reply:MY mom has these planted in her yard hers are planted about 10" from her fence.
